BACKGROUND

The Midway City Sanitary District recently invited the City to participate in their upcoming Open House event. This event is a community-focused celebration showcasing their commitment to the City of Westminster and Midway City residents.

The Open House is scheduled for Saturday, February 3, 2024 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be live music, food, traditional Lion Dancers and Drummers, face painting and more to provide a fun and interactive day for all ages.

To ensure the success of the event and as a longtime community partner, MCSD is requesting that the City consider a sponsorship for the Open House. The agreement and sponsorship package have been attached to the staff report for review and consideration (Attachments 1 and 2).

FISCAL IMPACT

This will require a budget increase to the General Fund under Community Promotions: 75000-44020, Special Department expense.

LEGAL REVIEW

The City Attorney’s Office has reviewed as to form.

CONCLUSION

The Midway City Sanitary District is a community partner and has provided both in-kind and monetary sponsorships and support of City events over the years including the former Spring Festival, Fall Festival, community pop-ups, the annual Tet Parade, and volunteer clean-ups and Earth Day events.

The City does not currently have a policy regarding the handling of sponsorships administratively. Therefore, the Mayor and City Council are asked to the consider the sponsorship request and provide direction to staff regarding an amount if the Council approves a sponsorship. If approved, the Mayor and City Council would also authorize the City Manager to execute the agreement on behalf of the City.
