BACKGROUND
The City of Westminster’s datacenter Information Technology (IT) infrastructure consists of multiple servers, networking, and storage equipment. Many of our services run on an aging IT infrastructure. These servers provide Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) services to our employees. Several years ago, the city transitioned from traditional desktops to VDI services. VDI services offer several advantages over traditional desktops, including greater security, flexibility, and cost efficiency. These services have slowed down over the years due to the need for increased processing and graphics, negatively impacting the work productivity of city staff members. Some of the VDI components are no longer officially supported by the manufacturers.
The IT Division conducted a thorough review of IT infrastructure and engaged various vendors to analyze our existing infrastructure and evaluated various solutions and proposals. Staff recommends the selection of Crossconnect Engineering as the preferred consultant. Crossconnect Engineering utilizes the Nutanix platform and Cisco network. The Nutanix platform integrates servers and storage into a single platform to reduce complexities that exist in the current system.
The breakdown of cost is as follows:
|
Nutanix Server and Storage Platform |
$436,539 |
|
Cisco Datacenter Switches |
$130,248 |
|
Professional Services |
$ 58,914 |
|
Total |
$625,701 |
Proposals were requested from multiple consultants, and a total of four submissions were received. After reviewing the proposals, Crossconnect Engineering provided the lowest cost proposal under the National Cooperative Purchasing Alliance (NCPA) #01-169. NCPA assists public agencies (including local government, schools, and non-profits) to leverage collective buying power to obtain competitive pricing on a wide range of goods and services.
FISCAL IMPACT
Funding for the purchase of IT datacenter equipment and professional services in the amount of $625,701 would require a budget adjustment from the Information Technologies fund balance to account 14450-47022 computer equipment. The ongoing cost to maintain this equipment will be $60,051 and will be included as part of the annual budget process.
LEGAL REVIEW
The City Attorney’s Office has reviewed as to form.
CONCLUSION
The approval of the purchase of datacenter IT equipment and professional services with Crossconnect Engineering will increase the operational efficiency of city employees in their daily computing work tasks, while improving the cybersecurity status of our city.
