BACKGROUND
The City continues to actively seek grant funding to support community projects. In September 2024, the City applied for the 2024 Sustainable Communities Program - Active Transportation and Safety grant for a Citywide Safe Routes to School Quick-Build Project. This project, utilizing the City’s adopted Safe Routes to School plan, will refresh, update, and install school crosswalks, striping, and signage adjacent to 20 school sites located within the City of Westminster. Quick-build projects refer to a type of capital improvement that requires minimal or minor construction activities and immediately implements safety needs.
In December 2024, the City received notification of an intent to award $445,000 through the SCAG Sustainable Communities Program - Active Transportation and Safety. SCAG, along with local and sub-regional partners, evaluated a total of 40 applications (19 for plans and 21 for quick-build projects) and selected 13 projects for funding. Westminster was the only city selected in Orange County.
As a condition of the grant award, SCAG requires the City to submit a Resolution in support of the project.
FISCAL IMPACT
The grant award is for $445,000 with no funding match. No additional appropriations are needed at this time.
