BACKGROUND
The Alcohol Policing Partnership Program (APP) grant is designed to support a comprehensive and strategic approach to addressing crime and public nuisance issues associated with problematic alcoholic beverage outlets.
The Westminster Police Department's Detectives Unit regularly pursues grant funding opportunities to enhance public safety efforts within the community. One such funding source is the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC).
For the current year, staff have applied for and secured APP grant funding for the City of Westminster. The awarded funds will be used to support overtime operations, enabling officers to participate in ABC's Minor Decoy and Shoulder Tap Programs, and to conduct Informed Merchants Preventing Alcohol-Related Crime Tendencies (IMPACT) inspections. These programs target ABC-licensed establishments and individuals who provide alcohol to underage people.
The project aims to reduce underage drinking, decrease DUI-related injuries, fatalities, and property damage, and limit youth access to alcohol through licensee education, enforcement intervention, and the establishment of a strong law enforcement presence.
