The City of Westminster pumps 100% of its water from nine wells located throughout the City. By doing so, the City has saved $1.12 million in FY 25-26. The City’s goal is to continue delivering safe, high quality drinking water at the lowest possible cost to our customers.

These units, manufactured by De Nora Water Technologies, LLC, will be used for creating a sodium hypochlorite solution for the purpose of disinfecting water that is pumped from the City’s wells, prior to entering the City’s water distribution system. This is important to protect public health by preventing bacterial growth, such as dangerous disease-causing organisms, and is required to meet State and Federal water quality standards. The United States Environmental Protection Agency and the State Water Resources Control Board Division of Drinking Water are the agencies responsible for establishing and enforcing drinking water quality standards.

The current units at Water Well 75 and Well R2 are over 20 years old and have reached their life expectancy. These replacements are timely as the subject equipment is no longer cost-effective to repair and poses a risk of failure. The new sodium hypochlorite generation units will be installed by a City’s contractor, and City staff will proactively conduct routine maintenance on these new units to maximize their lifespan.

FISCAL IMPACT

Funding for the purchase order in the amount of $260,000 is available in the Capital Improvement Project Account Number 55502-552601, “Disinfection Unit Replacement at Well 75 and R2.”
