RECOMMENDED ACTION
Recommendation
A. Accept the Grant Award from the Sun Family Foundation for the Senior Café Lunch Space in the amount of $85,000; and
B. Authorize the City Manager or her designee to execute the Grant Agreement.
BACKGROUND
The Westminster Senior Center has been awarded a grant in the amount of $85,000 from the Sun Family Foundation (Attachment 1). The grant will support improvements to the Senior Café Lunch Space, which serves as a primary gathering area for the older adult community.
The primary objective of this grant is to modernize and enhance the functionality of the existing space to better meet the needs of the growing senior population. The current space presents challenges in supporting a variety of programs and activities, including socialization, meal service, and educational programming, due to its existing configuration and aging infrastructure.
Grant-funded improvements will support enhancements to the Senior Café Lunch Space to improve functionality, accessibility, and overall use of the space. Improvements may include:
• Replacement of furnishings, such as tables and chairs.
• General facility improvements, including lighting, windows, doors and access points, and related upgrades.
The full grant amount will be paid within fourteen (14) days of execution of the agreement. The City will administer the grant and comply with the reporting schedule in accordance with the Foundation’s requirements.
FISCAL IMPACT
Acceptance of the grant award will require an amendment to the Fiscal Year 2025-26 Adopted Budget by designating grant revenues in the amount of $85,000 to Senior Center revenue account 70500-39049 and appropriating $85,000 to project account 20002-002603 for Senior Center Improvements.
LEGAL REVIEW
The City Attorney’s Office has reviewed as to form.
CONCLUSION
For staff to proceed with the project, the grant must be accepted by the City Council by executing the agreement (Attachment 1) and amending the adopted budget as proposed.
