BACKGROUND

This request is being made by Mayor Chi Charlie Nguyen.

At the August 14, 2024 City Council meeting, Resolution No. 5275 was adopted by the City Council to censure Councilwoman Amy Phan West (District 1) for violations of the City Council’s Ethics Policy as well as other actions listed in the resolution (Attachment 1). Resolution No. 5279 was subsequently adopted, determining sanctions and remedial actions, in effect for the duration of her term ending in December 2026 (Attachment 2).

Mayor Nguyen is requesting the City Council consider the adoption of a resolution (Attachment 3) to remove the censure on Councilwoman West and lift the sanctions and remedial actions previously taken. Mayor Nguyen stated he has always wanted to be able to work with all council members for the betterment of the residents and city. Therefore, as a sign of unity, and reflective of Councilwoman Phan West’s improvements toward a unified City Council, Mayor Nguyen is making this request.

FISCAL IMPACT
