RECOMMENDED ACTION

Recommendation

Approve the cancelation of the Regular Meeting of November 11, 2026 (Veterans Day) and reschedule the meeting to November 18, 2026 as a Special Meeting.

end

BACKGROUND

Pursuant to Section 2.04.010 of the Westminster Municipal Code, the City Council regularly meets on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month. Periodically, the staff reviews the City Council meeting calendar for potential conflicts with holidays, City Hall closures, and requirements for approval of business transactions.

The regularly scheduled meeting of November 11, 2026 is Veterans Day, a nationally observed holiday. Therefore, staff recommends the Regular Meeting of November 11 be canceled and rescheduled as a Special Meeting on November 18. Staff has confirmed council members’ availability to ensure a quorum on the rescheduled day if the council decides to approve that alternate date.

Upon approval, the City Clerk’s Office will proceed with noticing as required by State law, as well as updating the City’s website calendar. As long as Brown Act noticing requirements are met, canceled meetings can be reversed and held if there is business to be conducted. Special meetings can also be called to conduct urgent business as necessary, which has been done historically.
