BACKGROUND
At the close of the second quarter in 2026, the City of Westminster experienced an overall decrease in crime of more than 11%. Violent Crime increased 13% while Property Crime decreased 15%. A major contributor to the increase in Violent Crime is the 22% increase in Aggravated Assaults.
An analysis of the decrease in Property Crime found that it is due to the closure of the Westminster Mall where a lot of shoplifting reports were generated. An analysis of the increase in Aggravated Assaults found an increase in assaults amongst the homeless/unhoused population.
The following table provides a detailed breakdown of crime statistics and the percent change between the first quarter of 2025 and 2026. Please note Q2 is inclusive of Q1.

CONCLUSION
The City of Westminster’s overall crime reduction of more than 11% in the second quarter of 2026 reflects the continued efforts of the Westminster Police Department and its community partners to enhance public safety. This report provides valuable insight into crime trends and will guide ongoing efforts to maintain and improve public safety in the year ahead.
