Receive and file the Westminster Police Department’s First Quarter Crime statistics report for 2025 and 2026.

BACKGROUND

 

At the close of the first quarter in 2026, the City of Westminster experienced an overall decrease in crime of more than 13%. Violent crime increased 35% while Property crime decreased 19%. A major contributor to the increase in violent crime is the 80% increase in robberies and 35% increase in aggravated assaults.

 

An analysis of the robberies found an increase in bikes and jewelry being stolen with force. The popularity of electric bikes has made them a target of crime. An analysis of the increase in aggravated assaults found an increase in retail stores and assaults amongst the homeless/unhoused population.

CONCLUSION

 

The City of Westminster’s overall crime reduction of more than 13% in the first quarter of 2026 reflects the continued efforts of the Westminster Police Department and its community partners to enhance public safety. This report provides valuable insight into crime trends and will guide ongoing efforts to maintain and improve public safety in the year ahead.
