RECOMMENDED ACTION

 

Recommendation

Review staff’s recommendations for appointments and reappointment and appoint 13 members to serve on the Youth Committee for a term expiring June 30, 2027.

BACKGROUND

 

The Youth Committee consist of 13 regular members who are appointed annually and serve a term concurrent with the school year. Members must be between 12 and 18 years of age (members who have surpassed the age of 18 may continue to serve until the completion of their senior year of high school), be residents of Westminster and attend a school in a district that serves the Westminster community.

 

Applications and information about the Youth Committee were distributed to middle and high schools throughout Westminster, to the Boys and Girls Club of Westminster and Abrazar, Inc., on social media and the City website, and during community outreach opportunities.

 

All current members who are eligible to serve on the committee for the upcoming term were invited to submit an application to be considered for reappointment. Of the current, regular members, 7 were eligible and applied for reappointment. 21 applications were received from prospective members, of which the 15 listed below participated in the interview process. Three applicants declined an interview opportunity, and three applicants did not qualify for consideration as they were not residents of Westminster.

 

The following current members submitted applications for reappointment:

Interviews were conducted by the Community Services and Recreation Department staff on July 1, 7, and 8, 2026.

FISCAL IMPACT

 

There is no fiscal impact. The members do not receive a stipend for service on the Youth Committee.

 

LEGAL REVIEW

 

The City Attorney’s Office has reviewed as to form.

 

CONCLUSION

 

Following appointment, the City Clerk’s Office will contact the appointed Members and work with the Community Services and Recreation Department for onboarding measures.
