Consider the redesignation of Street Name Signs in Honor of Charlie Kirk on All American Way between Westminster Boulevard and 13th Street.

BACKGROUND
Mayor Chi Charlie Nguyen is proposing to redesignate All American Way as Charlie Kirk Way in honor of slain activist Charlie Kirk. Kirk co-founded Turning Point USA (TPUSA) and devoted himself to engaging younger voters and college students in public policy and conservative values. He inspired countless Americans to explore their beliefs and better understand the importance of engaging in political discourse in an open and civil manner.
Kirk was tragically assassinated on September 10, 2025 while speaking at a college event in Orem, Utah. Mayor Nguyen seeks to commemorate his life and legacy through this street name redesignation to be funded by the City.
If approved, the proposed redesignation will not change the official street name and would entail the purchase and installation of the following six signs (Attachment 1):
• Two existing Internally Illuminated Street Name Signs will be replaced on the traffic signal mast arm on the southside of Westminster Boulevard at All American Way.
o All American Way with Charlie Kirk Way beneath the street name.
• Two new single-sided reflective signs on the traffic signal pole on the southeast corner of All American Way and Westminster Boulevard; one facing west and one facing east.
o Charlie Kirk Way.
• Two existing double-sided reflective street name signs will be replaced. One on the corner of All American Way and 15th Street and one on the corner of All American Way and 13th Street.
o All American Way with Charlie Kirk Way beneath the street name.
These special redesignations will not cause any disruption for the businesses or property owners in the area.
FISCAL IMPACT
If approved, the estimated cost would be $3,000 for the purchase and installation of the new street name signs.
LEGAL REVIEW
The City Attorney’s Office has reviewed as to form.
CONCLUSION
The redesignation of All American Way as Charlie Kirk Way would commemorate the life and legacy of Charlie Kirk. This redesignation would not change the official name of the street and require the purchase and installation of six new street name signs.
