BACKGROUND

At the April 22, 2026 City Council meeting, District 4 Council Member NamQuan Nguyen requested that an item be placed on the agenda to discuss the creation of an ad hoc committee comprised of members of the City Council to support planning efforts for the 2027 Tet Parade.

Currently, the mayor works closely with City staff in the planning and coordination of the annual Tet Parade. However, with upcoming elections and the potential for transitions in Council representation, Council Member NamQuan Nguyen expressed interest in establishing an ad hoc committee to help maintain continuity in Council involvement and ongoing support for the event.

The proposed ad hoc committee would provide an opportunity for designated council members to collaborate with staff on key aspects of the parade, which may include community engagement, sponsorship outreach, and cultural considerations.

This item is being brought forward to allow the City Council to discuss the potential formation of an ad hoc committee, including its purpose, structure, and to provide direction to staff.

FISCAL IMPACT

There is no fiscal impact associated with the creation of an ad hoc committee.  Members of the ad hoc committee will not receive compensation for their participation.
